I am considering buying a kayak but I have a question. How to do hold the position of a kayak in the wind or current enough to fish a spot effectively. I know there are pedal driven kayaks and electric anchors but they both put a kayak out of my budget.

I just use an anchor and rope. Easy to carry, cheap and works in any depth with enough line.

Anchor and a rope. The claw style anchor works better than the folding grapnel style anchor you often see. I attached a small zigzag cleat to the side of my kayak to secure the anchor rope to. Many people use an anchor trolley to hold themselves at the right angle. A drift sock also can be used to slowly drift over a spot.

As others have said, anchor, rope, and make sure to have an anchor trolley. Makes all the difference.

Windy days can be tough though, I usually stay in protected coves if I can help it. There are days that I get pretty frustrated dealing with the wind.

Anchor and anchor trolley is key. I lime the bruce claw and 100ft of 5/16 cord...not para cord...it tangles too bad.

I fish pretty shallow most time so my 8' stake out pole works for me.

You might as well add a brush clip as well. You may not have use for one all the time, but when you have the opportunity to use one it's better than an anchor.

Just one more cast!

Anchor and trolley. Gotta have it. You want to think about where you want the trolley (left or right side).

I don't use actual brush clips, but it can be very useful to tie off to a tree or piece of brush. Be careful to keep your line above the water so you can get it back off the tree, or get a real brush clip. If you are fishing standing timber, this is a much better method than dropping an anchor. I sometimes work my way down a bank by tying off to one tree, then another, etc. Its faster, you don't spook fish so much, and you don't risk an anchor getting tangled up and lost.

Try attaching your anchor to a cheap retractable dog leash!! Keeps the rope out of the way! wink
