To be fair he's had fish over the lake Palestine record for Jr Angler several times but we've never bothered to try and weight one. Now I see why it was so low!! It's work to find a place to weight a fish in with a certified scale! It weighed 1lb 8oz on my scale but we didn't get it to a certified scale until the next day at Fork. 1.23 black crappie caught on a brushpile with a Thermocline Little Fry in Black Emerald Shiner. His certificate showed up yesterday so we will have to put it up next to his other crappie fishing stuff!! Look out 4lbr your next!!!
Congrats to him but I bet it will be short lived because he will catch a bigger one. You might want to research were there are certified scales closer to the lake.
We went Friday evening after school and it was about 6pm when we were looking for a place to take it. Athens was closed and Creekside in Chandler said the owner wasn't in and he was the only one that could use the scale. I needed lawnmower gas anyhow and checked on the camp Sat so it wasn't all bad taking it to Lake Fork Marina! He was carp fishing while we cleaned crappie that evening! You can tell by the stuff next to him! He's upset his magic bait carp bait didn't catch any! Least it smelled nice! I tell him all the time I'm trying to raise him up a crappie and he's a catfish! Hope I don't have to change it to carp!!
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
