Hello, TFF. I'm new, just got my profile approved last night. Me and my wife have our first wedding anniversary coming up in July. We both love fishing and the beach, so we are wanting to run down to matagorda for a couple of nights to do some surf fishing. Problem is, being young newly weds (I'm 21 and she's 19) we are on an extremely tight budget. Any advice on having a great vacay in Matagorda? I've been looking into the Fisherman's Motel and they have rooms as low as $75 a night. Another issue is that we don't have a 4x4. Is it possible to find an Uncrowded section of surf (and still catch fish) without driving down the beach? We don't really care what we catch, we just love having a fish on the end of our line(maybe with the exception of a never ending procession of salt cats). How can I do my best to make sure she has a blast and catches some fish? What do y'all think about the Fisherman's motel? Should I try to borrow a 4x4 truck to go down there? Any tips help! Thanks!

If yall have an RV or a popup they have a nice RV park/ camping ground 1/4 mile from the jetties. Im heading down there this weekend.

Fishermans Motel is a nice place with a very nice staff. As you come in near the jetties on the beach it should be good. Depending on the surf. Check on the tides before you go. I would fish the channel as well. Live piggy perch, finger mullet or even just shrimp will get the job done. Surf can get up in a hurry so be careful. Catch some blue crab and crack em for some reds as well. PM me for more info.

Ive stayed a the fishermans Motel. Really easy. Theres a bait and tackle store right across the street, everythings reasonably priced. I would defenitly try fishing the pier. Ive had good nights catching big whiting and the occasional red there. Theres also a free lit pier in matagorda goood for night fishing. its on your right as you drive down towars the beach . The jetties there arent bad either. Crabbing is good in any slow moving water. The boat locks are known to hold some big black drum. No good for table fare but there are plenty of em

I'm just going to throw this out there, but have you considered Surfside? You can literally drive miles up and down the beach to fish the surf from there to Galveston as long as you have an SUV.

Nothing cheaper than sleeping on the beach. Get you a small tent.
