Hey Yall-

Wondering where I can go catch some cats in or near houston.

Let me know.

I don't often fish for catfish, but I know that TPWD stocks them throughout the summer at 2 locations in the Houston area:

I have heard there are some decent sized cats in Lake Houston and in Buffalo Bayou. Good Luck!

Go to the lake and find some riprap (rocks) on a north bank (facing the south wind) and net some fresh shad or bring some dipbait. Shads better. Fish 3-4' under a peg bobber and cast about 10 yards out. Channels are spawning.

I can vouch for Mary Jo Peckham park in Katy.

It is one of the lakes in Houston stocked with channel cats, TPWD has the stocking schedule on their website.

IMO definitely worth going there now and into the summer.

Can get crowded though, early morning and evening times best if you want to avoid a lot of people.

I have never had any luck at Mary Jo Park after rainbow trout stockings and went once last year for catfish and got skunked. Best bet is to show up the day of stocking and fish where they put them in the water.

I was there this past Sunday. There was a guy I was standing next to who caught 15. He was using shrimp...so was I lol. He was giving the fish away.

The only one I caught was maybe 3-4lbr off of a little piece of worm I was using to catch blue gill for cut bait.

I was about three feet from the bank when he hit, damn near broke my son's 4ft rod.

Weekend before that I caught a gar out of there. Surprised the hell out of me.

Definitely best to go on the weekend they are released.

Seems shrimp is working best this year.
