Well guys, I've been back lurking here for a few months. I was actually on here several years ago and couldn't remember my user name. So, I just created a new one. Late last summer I picked up a little 16ft WeldCraft for some duck hunting and winter saltwater fishing. Back in high school I crappie fished quite a bit on Texana since it wasn't far from where I grew up. Well, the urge to start again hit me so I started coming here. I had been acquiring various panfish tackle over the years to fish the small tanks out and my brothers place. I finally broke down and had Jerry send me a mess of his jigs. I'll still buy minnows from time to time but I would rather catch them on jigs, etc. I made my maiden voyage the Sunday before Mother's Day and all I can say is it was a ton of fun. Caught lots of fish and kept 11. The three largest were 14.25, 15.5 and 16.25. Fished with minnows and jigs. I made a quick trip Friday after work and only had 3 for the box with several undersized and a couple right at 10" that were turned back. Friday was jigs only. All fish were in 15-18ft of water suspended at 12'. I had plans to go again on Saturday. But, a buddy of mine called and wanted to go chase some saltwater fish. We ended up with 7 trout, a few undersized reds and two good reds lost at the boat. I'm sure I will be full of stupid questions as I get settled in so don't beat a newb up too bad.

Nice! Never been trout fishing before. Heard it was a blast.

It is fun. If you are ever this way let me know. I can't promise we'll catch anything but we will have fun. I'm blessed to have both species within 30 minutes from the house. I do wish we had a few more crappie lakes closer by.

thumb welcome
