I need some opinions. I'm taking a relative rookie bass fishing in a couple of weeks to a private pond with lots of brush and big bass. He thinks he can cast a baitcaster, but I have my doubts. just in case, I have a couple of fairly heavy duty spin cast reels that I keep around for my wife and daughters to use. I find that 10-12 lb mono works pretty good, but this will not be heavy enough for this location. has anyone ever used braid on a spin cast reel? before I spool up some, I thought I would check and see if anyone had tried this. opinions?

Heck yeah. Spool it up with some braid and get after it. I have a spare spool for my spinning reel that I keep braid on.

I don't think he means spinning reel man, spin cast reel.

I've tried to use braid on a spin cast reel a few times for catfishing and stuff. . .it never works out well. If I were you I'd spool them up with 15lb big game mono and see if it'll cast.

Tell him to use his thumb and make him pick out his own backlashes. Bet he learns pretty quick. grin
