I was at a stop light in my 08 Cummins powered Ram when the check engine light came on and it started running really rough. Made it about 200 yards running rough and then it died. Coasted into a residential area where I got it towed to the repair shop. Have not heard from the shop yet. My thought is it dropped an injector. What say the rest of the diesel people?

You need a doctor, not a mechanic. Everyone knows that the Cummins engines NEVER have issues, so you are obviously hallucinating.

Guess I'll call the shop for the bad news. The mechanic says it's running fine....He said it might be a fuel pressure issue that he is checking out, but no codes are showing on the computer. I can't believe that Cummins just fix themselves on their own.

Had a 5.9 with similar symptoms. Would do it intermittently. Mine was fuel pump.
may have just been a hiccup. My dad's 2004 Duramax had some kind of hiccup while driving down the road, it only had about 1,000 miles on it at the time, we were doing 70 down I-10, I was driving it lost a significant amount of power and started smoking like it was on fire. We got to dinner ate and cranked it back up to go home and it ran fine and has continued to do so for over 200k miles since then. Never had it checked and the truck has been great.

I thought when the check engine light came on, it recorded the code that caused it. He said no code. Not going to be in a hurry to get it back. Heck, I might get lucky and it just is a fuel pressure issue.

From my understanding there are some systems that trigger a "hard return" for lack of better words that is saved in the computer till cleared and then there are other systems that are perhaps not as critical that only keep the check engine light on as long as the problem persists.
Like a low tire light etc.

Just out of curiosity, did you try and restart it when it died before you had it towed? When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Could be as simple as that. If the filter is very dirty, it could have cause it so starve just long enough to kill it.
BTW, my '08 Cummins has never done anything like that (knock on wood). Not saying your truck does or doesn't have an issue but it could simply be a non-issue.

Does the 08 have a electric lift pump? If so might be an area to look.

Restarted it a few times to get enough momentum to coast to a safe place to park. Ran rough and shook like crazy. Fuel filter was changed less than a month ago. Ironically when the tow truck driver started it to turn the steering wheel to get it aligned with the bed of the tow truck, it started right up and seemed to run fine. This is perplexing.

Hope you get it figured out and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
Keep us posted, curious to see what it is.

Keep us posted, curious to see what it is. I have a good mechanic shop that is reasonable. I'm still having issues with the AC, so I am going to leave it there till it all gets fixed. Then, it just might be off to the dealer on a trade in. I hate worrying about something that seem to can't be diagnosed.

There should be a code stored in history... Don't make sense why there are no codes, but it is a Dodge! They are weird at times.. Its a high pressure fuel system, so anything can cause it, like an injector or high pressure fuel pump! Good luck and let us know what it is!
