Ok guys, maybe you can teach me something here.

I've never had enough confidence in them to fish jigs, but I'm really wanting to start. Mainly for flipping shallow stuff right now. Been doing some research and trying to figure out what line to use and there's obviously arguments for straight fluoro, straight braid, and braid with a fluoro leader.

As I started reading all this info on what lines people use, it seemed like a majority was using a braid with a fluoro leader. So I guess my main question is trying to figure out what the benefit is to be gained by using a fluoro leader on braid versus just using straight fluoro? My reasonable thinking would suggest that there's just as much of a chance, or more, for your 2'+ fluoro leader to fail as there would be if it was straight fluoro. So what do y'all do, and why?

Ive been struggling with this same question flurocarbon is suppose to be invisible to fish so you get more bites. The only thing i can think of is braid behaves better on your reel so just use a leader to your bait for stealth and its sinking ability. Ive been throwing flukes with braid tied straight to the hook with success. However the majority swears by a leader....Im on the fence i guess the bass dont see the braid pitching and flipping or if they do it doesnt matter. What have you been using tx2va07 ?

Well last time out was my first time to really make myself just fish a jig. I was using 20lb copolymer, which before then I thought was very strong line. Broke off 2 jigs, 1 being on a fish on the hook set. I've never had any knot issues before using this line so I don't believe it was the knots. And I usually fish my T-rigs on 15lb fluoro with no issues at all. That's why I was thinking maybe I needed to switch to straight braid for jigs. But if I did that then my confidence will most likely be back at ground zero if I'm not getting bites, I'll think it's because the fish are seeing the braid lol.

try 50 or 65 lb power pro to 20 lb seagur red label using the albright knot. takes a bit of practice to get it right but i have yet to break the knot.

I can tell you ive caught lots of bass with flukes tied straight to braid however they have all been small. Maybe the larger fish are more selective. I dont have any jig experience. Next time out im gonna try a fluro leader i guess i will join them with a uni knot ive eventhought about using a spro swivel.

JIgs to mono or fluorcarbon is alright. I tend to think 20 pound is a good starting point but if you can get by with 25 or 30 then why not?

Braid compared to large diameter mono pitches much easier especially with lighter jigs.

Braid tends to saw when it rubs up against stuff. Good for weeds, bad for timber.

I use suffix 832 40lb and with a 15 or 20lb red label leader, the main reason I like it is because the braid doesn't take memory and doesn't wear out if I get hung up It always breaks at the leader also so I don't lose any line, I will say it can be a pain sometimes but it has its perks.

I also did some knot tests with a scale and with my testing I found the double uni knot was best for me and the Alberto knot did pretty well but it's harder to tie properly to get a good consistent strong knot

That makes sense. Didn't really think of it from that angle.

Sufix 832 is amazing braid i can vouch for that

When using a fluro leader do people just use fluro off a spool or go and get actual fluro leaders like they do for saltwater applications

I've done both and I've really noticed no difference in performance. If there's anything to factor in, it's that actual flourocarbon from a spool will be easier to manage and tie than standard flourocarbon leader material. The leader material tends to be a little bit stiffer and harder to cinch down.

Ive got some seaguar red label. Im gonna experiment with it. Thinking of using a swivel in front of my fluke or trickworm. Redlabel is 15lb test

BIGBASS94 is there a rule of thumb for leader length. I will be using a 7 foot medium action gloomis spinning rod if it matters ?

I like about a 6 foot leader, leaves you plenty to re tie without having to change leader.
