have a business trip to Zapata and planning on going a day early to try a few hours of bank fishing. anyone know a good area? Have heard Falcon State Park has lots of bank, looks like a lot of shore access at the 83 bridge in town as well. heard of a County Park but don't see it. just hoping for a an afternoon and dusk tossing worms or crankbaits or anything else someone can recommend. i am mainly saltwater so my freshwater stuff is a limited.....

County ramp for sure, the turn off is almost directly across from the Tackle Shop there in Zapata. Stop in there and ask those guys and they will tell you exactly where the street is that goes to the County Ramp. If the lake is at a level where you can reach the brush hang on. State Park will have some excellent fishing if you can reach the brush from the bank.

Years ago an guy told me there was good catfishing from the bank. I wonder if that's still true?

yeah on Google Maps the current image shows a lot of submerged brush just off the shore(but you never know when it was taken. trust me -dont trust the "image" date they stamp on there. never right..)
thats what i was thinking! plenty of hidey space for baitfish and predators.....been a wet spring everywhere else - hopefully there as well

It all depends on the lake level. You may be in luck. Hope so and have fun, post pics please.

The lake is plummeting bad. Lots of areas to walk around boat ramp. Lots of little off road trails to drive on. Just watch out for all the thorns. Square bills should work really well. The guys at falcon lake and tackle will help you. I always stop and buy something even if I don't need it.

Basshunter you nailed it. the guys did exactly that, so i bought two lures from them (that i "donated" to some lucky person when the water drops more...lol)

caught 8 bass in 4 hours, one about 8 ", one 14", the rest 16 to 20". the water was alive, they were hitting the surface everywhere attacking bait. not for the light hearted though - wear polaroids so you can see the bottom better, and wade out to get better cast lines through the gaps in the brush. go as weedless as you can but you will still have issues.

really fun fishing in mid afternoon then it turned off like a light at 5:30. must have been a tide change.
