Some really nice gills from Lake Travis: It takes my weighted fly so long to reach the proper depth I can literally take a nap during its decent...
my 9"

My nephews 91/4" He has really caught the fishing bug...poor kid spends all his money on gear lol

Ashley's deep water Long Ear.

Ashley's many Guads

and of course our "kiddo" Jake with his unique colored gill

My 9.1/2"....stretch as I might could not make it 10"
[/img]

Some spots are just way to deep for any fly and I had to pull out my old Hooligan Jigs lol...we are averaging appx 50 to 75 fish each day with the vast majority of sizes being in the small to 8" range. Its easily a 4 to 1 ratio of Bluegill over Redbreast. Try as we might Redear are just non existent even though its clearly their habitat. Worried they may not have made the drought. If the "meat hunters" do not clear out our holes Im looking next year to produce quite a number of trophy sized "Gills" perhaps even a few Redbreast as well. We have also enjoyed the numerous Guadalupe Bass what a beautiful fish...Ash has caught Gaspergoo's and a few channel cat here and there. I would have NEVER given Travis a chance prior to the floods and here we are an 1/2" away from Trophy Bluegills....

Chuck, that has been the primary subject on the boat...I would have to say yes it could happen as they are certainly endemic both east and west on the Colorado...That drought though they would have never survived I don't think. Their habitat was 70' out of water at the worst. Sadly Im gonna say it will be years before we see a Rio outta Travis. However you will be the 1st to know. Caveat: on the upper end towards Marble Falls or up the Perdnales possibly ????

Thanks Kent. I have caught some nice ones on the Colorado River in Marble Falls. I have fished the Perdernales River a bunch around Johnson City and Stone Wall and have not caught any Rios. Water there really looks good for them. Will be fishing that area soon. thumb

Side Note: Pulled some nice Rios off of LBL last year! coolio

Great post! I have fished both Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake but never Travis. Maybe some day I will get the chance.

Side Note: How deep is Lake Travis?

There are places in the middle of the channel that are a couple of hundred feet deep.

The fish should be moving shallow with this next full moon. Then the fly fishing becomes fun on the main lakes. You'll find those 10" plus trophies soon.

Thanks for sharing.

One very deep lake for sure. Great to know even when the lake level was very low there are still some deep pools that were remaining.

Side Note: Enjoyed the post and pictures. Good job Team Hooligan.
