Drum has become my new itch I can't seem to scratch. Loved catching them growing up and it's been a real long time since I've pulled one in. I know they'll take most anything off the bottom but I'd like to specifically target them. So, do you have any recommendations on locating them (FROM SHORE)? They taste great in my opinion and I'd love to pull in a mess of them to stock my freezer and leave the "sport fish" to everyone else.

I have a lot of luck flat on bottom on boat ramps with worms. Or any large flat surface like a rock or concrete. Bridge pylons are good as well. Just lay the worm flat on the concrete they are suckers so putting the bait where they are sucking works for me

Get you some crawfish tails and fish the rip rap at Ray Hubbard along I-30. Keep your bait about six inches off the bottom. I caught quite a few of them by accident last summer this way. I was using live minnows.

I got the itch and found a new appreciation for them as well. IMHO they are hard fighters and when immediatly iced and kept fresh they are absolutely the best for eating. I use to hate catching these fish when I was targeting other types of fish. I guess because I had always heard they were worthless? The moral to this story is don't believe everything you hear. Wow! This fish is now one of my favorites, especially for tablefare!

My personal favorite recipe is marinating the fillets overnight in a plastic zipper bag with Italian salad dressing and a tablespoon of liquid smoke. put them on the grill no salt and pepper needed. The flesh is firm and will not fall apart.

I also like soaking any type of fish I decide to eat in seven up or lemon lime soda. Soaking or marinating in buttermilk is another alternative that works well with all fish. I know everybody's taste in fish is different, but prepared the ways I've stated should produce an amazing meal.

One further note: Smaller Drum a half a pound to three pounds seem to be the very best, although when prepared and cooked right even the larger ones are really good.

I catch plenty on crappie jigs around the Dam B

I have found that the Zman NED rig is killer for targeting drum in the rivers around me! Just bouncing the bottom.
