Joe Pool Lake is in bad shape after last week's rain. The lake is 5 1/2 feet high, which puts the parking lot partially under water and puts the water up to the bottom of the entry bridge at Lynn Creek Marina. The water is a dirty brown color. The COE are not releasing water.

The spawn is getting under way. Since the water is out of its banks the usual spawning places are in relatively deep water. The fish are hard to find.

Another interesting thing is for the first time since I have been going to Joe Pool there are lots of green sunfish, all small.

I caught 6 medium sized bluegills and a dozen or so small ones plus a few small green sunfish. One channel cat and one carp were bonuses.

I have been fishing the creeks that lead into Joe Pool and the spillway coming out a lot this spring. I've notice an uptick in the amount of green sunfish I'm catching this year. Unfortunately they're usually pretty small. Thanks for the update, I'm crossing the marina off my list of possibilities for tomorrow morning.

Hope the lake level settles down enough for a good spawn. Fortunately, they spawn throughout the summer, so there ought to be a good hatch before summer is over. The amount of rain this year in your area has been crazy. Enjoyed the pictures you posted. Keep 'em coming.

fine job with very tough conditions Mr. Smith. You have had a stacked deck against you for a while now with the adverse lake conditions.

I didn't know Joe poolike had nice size gills. I've been driving to Athens to gill fish. Do you fish from a boat or off the bank?
