I've recently gained access to a house to stay on Lake Granbury. I was out there last weekend doing chores, cleaning up, mowing, etc.... I'd like to be invited back type of chores. I was able to get on the water once in my kayak, but was greeted by incredibly stained water. I managed one small white.
I was told the water, generally, is always this stained. Is this the case? I'd imagine with the recent rains over the last couple weeks, the Brazos has managed to keep things pretty muddy, but I wouldn't expect it to be this stained at all times. Now, the home I have a place to crash is far north on the lake, above Weatherford Hwy. Does the water improve below 377? I'm really not used to fishing waters this muddy/murky.
I'd prefer to chase whites and whatever Stripers I could find as well, but at this point, I'd like to just get into fish. Any experience out there is a great help... just looking for some starting points, not your GPS coordinates. Thanks in advance.

Water was unusually muddy since all the rain we have had. Fishing should get a lot better when it clears up.

We have a place on Granbury...in general it's pretty stained water. Especially right now, it'll get better at some point, but can't imagine in the next few weeks with all water coming in from the river. The last time I went over 377, the lake looked as muddy as I've ever seen it.

For striper, you're generally going to be on the south end of the lake in the deeper wider sections.

I appreciate the insight. I figured it'd be stained last weekend. Hopefully, it clears up a little bit in the next couple of weeks. Mainly fishing the main channel for stripers?

Have never seen Granbury this muddy for this long.

I grew up fishing in the Oak Trail Shores area. The lake was always a really dark tea to light coffee with cream colored stain, and when the river was flowing it was muddy, especially up there. It wasn't until I started fishing again several years ago that I remember ever seeing (in Texas) water as clear as the East Texas grassy reservoirs.

Its only brown like this because of all the rain. Usually in the summer its a greenish colored stain. Once it cools off some and the algae is not growing full tilt it will clear up a little. Even then, all you have is about 2-3 ft. visibility.

Appreciate the info. 2-3 feet of visibility would be great! I'd imagine visibility last weekend was 1-2 inches.
Looks like more rain heading in today, and that should be it for a short while, hopefully.

I used to live in granbury and fished it all the time. The water was around 2' visibility consistently. A couple weeks ago I went up and fished, caught a few bass but the water was really stained, about 2"-3" visibility. All the fish were post spawn/ spawn. So they were shallow. Good luck on your next time out!

Anybody having any luck? I'm not, marking fish but I can't get them to bite!

It will be a couple weeks before I'm back out there. Hope the water clears up a little bit.
I had the same issue, dgilbert. I marked plenty of fish, but bites were a different story.
