I'm curious if anyone has changed their prop on a Motorguide Xi5? If so, why?

Also I keep seeing these Eliminator prop nuts... they look neat for sure, but I was wondering if anyone uses one.

I have an Eliminator prop nut on my Minn Kota now, but I have not tried it yet. I'm not sure how much difference it will make, but the technical reasons seem sound. The issue is I don't know if it will be 1% quieter/smoother (virtually no change) or something worthwhile.

If you do get one, absolutely follow directions in NOT lubricating the o-ring. The grip of that o-ring against the back of the prop is all that prevents the nut from coming loose, so it counts on that grip to work. In this case, the o-ring is not attempting to seal a joint, so no lubricant is desired.

Word of caution, keep a pair of channel locks that fit the Eliminator on the boat. I got my line caught up in the prop yesterday and could not get the nut off by hand to clear the line.

Thanks for the word of caution. I think I'll put a "strap wrench" in the boat. I have a spare one, and I bet that would do the trick (without scuffing up the prop nut).

I use one and they are nice especially for quick prop changes and dont tighten it so tight you cant get it off by hand it wont back off. I tighten mine until its snug then a half turn never loosens up either and can get it off by hand.

I had an issued with my MotorGuide 109 36 volt motor. At certain speeds I would get a high pitched hum or whine from the prop. I put on an Eliminator prop nut on it and the hum/whine went away. I also keep a strap wrench on board to remove if necessary to get line out.

any body change from the 2 blade prop to a 3 blade prop? I'm not sure it's really needed, but I find myself wandering into the thick stuff often.

One word of caution about removing the prop over water - that pin "falls freely" as soon as you get the nut about halfway off! Make sure you have something to catch it - just in case!!

What a surprise when I was trying to remove the line that got wrapped around the shaft! Brand new Xi5, now with a "newer" pin!

I tightened mine by hand and still had hard time getting it off. Don't know about heat, vibration etc. but mine seems noticeably quieter. Had a guide in my boat a few weeks ago and he noticed the fact that it was much quieter on higher speeds. I'm very happy with mine.

The 2 blade Safari is better in the thick stuff than the machette is.
