Spinning reels have a much better drag system for light line.
Cody Meyer, Brent Eheler & Aaron Martins are the best in the world with a drop shot. They all use spinning tackle. That should tell you something. Yea it tells me they're using small baits and using it as a finesse technique. I also like to dropshot a 3/4oz weight with a 3/0 hook and a craw or beaver type bait in deep grass. Have fun doing that on a flimsy spinning rod. I use a 7'3 H rod for it most of the time. People forget that the drop shot doesn't have to be JUST a finesse thing.

Your right it doesn't just have to be finesse thing, but that is what it was designed for & where it is at its best.

A little easier to throw light line on a weenie pole, for me.

Prefer the spinning reel for drop shot, wacky rig and small plastics or lures in conditions that warrant a down-sized bait.
Braid makes it easy to use. +1..they have a place. If it's good enough for Aaron Martens to drop shot with. Who am I to argue.

Well, a lot of you guys truly don't know much, and this proves it. Dan Then please sir, share your wisdom and let us bask in your greatness. exactly. If you not bubba rigging d/s, but using a standard finesse 3", 4" or 5" robo worm, it's perfect. Also, use 10 to 20# braid (will not twist like reg. mono) then add the fluorocarbon leader, weight of choice (I like 6#, get more hits, but will go 8 or 10 if a bit too much cover below). I love you guys spirit, calling them fairy wands and all, and when I visited Texas most guys that took me out questioned why I had a couple of them. That's why. Love having to upsize all my baits and line while over there, in San Diego you have to go finesse too much. That's why I like fishing central Cal, at the Delta, it's like fishing Texas. Upsize, and the average bass is 3#, not 1.5 like down here. Hope that helps.
