I've thinking about going fishing for the first time at LLELA. The problem I have is that I don't know the exact address, what fish to go for, or what type of condition the preserve is in. I'm going to be using normal spinning gear. Any advice on what to go for/where to go?

your talking about the elm fork trinity river below Lewisville dam?
http://llela.unt.edu/
call to see if area is even open.
but currently releasing 4800 cfs. unfishable. they have been releasing water like crazy for past yr closed most days. unsure of condition at this point. use to be a little bit of everything, even release trout there in winter but not this yr due to high water release

I fished there years ago and limited out in 5 minutes on hybrids...They were releasing, but not very much...it was on the right side. That was prolly 6 or so years ago.

Fly tier (yeah, I can fly fish...but the fish don't like frothy water!)

My son and I camp there. I have caught sandies, catfish and carp there. back in the day when one could fish right at the spillway we would catch stripers (maybe they were hybrids)

like LF said too much water coming out now. when it goes down find a deep slower pool with an eddy and pitch in some punch bait for cats. I have had good luck there. one must hike down a bit to get to a pool

the entrance is at Jones st and Kealy st right on the corner. if you are going east on Jones you will run right into the entrance.
