Does the side scan on the HDS Gen 3 units work well in shallow water?

How shallow and what do you mean by "work well"? Distance, clarity????

How does it compare to Humminbird side imaging in 3 to 5 foot of water depth? I had seen a post stating Lowrance wasn't as good as Humminbird in the shallow depths so wanted to hear more feedback about that.

I don't have a Hbird, I have Lowrances; but they are gen2's, not gen3's. Shouldn't matter though about the gen model.

I can't say that you'll see anything stellar in shallow water, I have one mounted on the trolling motor that I use when shallow and I've finally learned to decipher what it's showing me. For someone that hasn't used on before it would just be a jumbled mess of lines.

Some of the new transducers are giving better images; but I don't have the money to blow to experiment with them, so I'll keep using what I have. I'll post some pics and try to tell you what the screen is showing, these aren't going to be "WOW, just for the Internet pics". They are real life pics, so don't expect much.

My lss1 trolling mounted transducer. Speeds on all of these were 1.2mph according to my Terrova remote.

Tires. Bank on the left.

Lss2 transom.

Shallower water:

This is as shallow as I can get. The white splotches are rocks.

Black line on the right is a tree shadow. White splotches on the left are rocks. Bank on the right where the info turns black.

Thanks. The photos look really good for a trolling motor. I would assume images with transducer mounted on rear of a boat would have a little better clarity in shallow water.

There's not much for it to show you to be honest. Look at it like this, sit on your knees and stare out 100' in fnont of you. The angle is so odd that the pics won't be pretty. Now if you're on an angled bank you can get decent pics.

Grout scout- how do you have your units wired? Those pictures are extremely clear. I'm ok at fine tuning but think maybe I have some interference. Are all your units wires independently to the battery?

Interesting thing here... I was on update 5.0 when I took those pics. I have since updated to 5.5 and I had a horrendous batch of interference all of a sudden. So I tried to reload an older update but one of my graphs wouldn't take it, so I went back to 5.5 and did a hard reset on both graphs (both are gen2 12's). I still have interference and I had to put my noise filter on high to get rid of it, well for rid of most of it. I can no longer run the black 2d sonar palette (#13 I think). I don't know how a sonar can just get interference all of a sudden; but mine did.

But to your question. I have a dedicated 10g line going from the cranking battery to a fuse block where everything gets it's own feed.

Hey Flippin, if you read this thread. Will a ferrite choke work anywheres or are they just designed for trolling motors.

I believe the lss1 transducer is better than the lss2. Anyone else think the same thing ?

Depends on the situation. I think the lss1 has cleaner crisper DI with the 800mhz; but the lss2 will beat the lss1 with SI clarity on 455mhz.
