What is the best channel catfish bait. I want one that will stay on the hook. Some I use are too dry and crumble off the hook.

I've been using some stuff made in Granbury and having good luck with it. I'm using #6 treble hooks and it stays on pretty good. I use the cheese bait, but he has blood also. His website only lists it by the gallon, but I bought a small jar of it to try it out the first time. http://www.mrwhiskerscatfishbait.com

All punch baits on any given day will catch fish.

If your on fish, the fish really don't discriminate, lol

Where i think prepared baits stand out is how well they are waterproofed and how well they are fibered. Cheese is cheese....but the ability to stay on the hook and be casted out is what makes the difference.

sort of like asking which oil is best to use in my car/truck

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

If you're fishing where the fish are then most any punch/dip bait will work. As for staying on the hook, when it gets dry add a little vegetable oil to it. Just enough to make it sticky. When it's too wet (it will be in the summer) add some flour to it to make it sticky again.

I haven't tried stubby's although I need to get up there and get some. I've had good results using the Team Catfish Sudden Impact.

When in doubt, set the hook.

The thing I like about Stubby's is that it's heavy enough to use without weights. Makes dealing with tackle that much easier, and the shy cats don't feel anything else on the line. That, and it doesn't stink.

But like was said, they all work if you find the fish.

Salsa hit it right on the money. Got to stay on the hook first to catch cats.

If you are at Lake Fork, try Catfish Candy available a Fisherman's One Stop on Hwy 515. It is a punch bait and will stay on the hook. I will put it up against any bait but only sell it at this location. It is very hard to make, and I really don't make anything off of selling it. Just like to see folks catch fish with it. I caught 1,500 catfish in 2011 with it, which is the last time I kept accurate records. Normally, it will catch an average of 15 per hour.

All prepared baits work if the fish are there. It just how bad you want your hands and boat to smell. That's is why I prefer stubbys.
