Kept the kayak and float tube and got this,love it.

What is it about the pontoon that makes you love it, considering you also have a tube and a kayak?

Well I have a problem, I take too much stuff with me. My yak and tube have their place. The pontoon is a lot more stable in heavy wind. Used one up in Utah fell in love with it,plus it's a lot cheaper than upgrading to a better yak. Takes up less room and I can be on the water in 15 minutes if I'm not in a hurry. Which I really never am.

I've never been on one, so probably made some wrong assumptions about them. First, I imagined that they would be hard to maneuver in wind. Second, I assumed your hands would need to be on the paddles controlling it in any wind, instead of your fishing rod.

Use wind to your advantage by turning/ braking with your feet and both hands are free for fighting a fish. Dry easy chair comfort with super stability compared to a yak.

He's right, I've had 6 float tubes until I found what works for me. Got two up in Salt Lake, cheaper to do it that way instead of AA.You can use the oars to get you from point A to point B a little quicker ,but use a set of good fins,just as good as a trolling motor, and no registration. I can put one on mine, but why.

My experience is regular troll motor and battery are too heavy- sink fast in many cases where an inflatable would remain afloat with trapped air. Also loading hassle and transporting any distance by foot to launch is tiring. That said, they are faster than fins or rowing- Utah guys like Tube Dude and others use them. Pack in tubes are light enough to travel by airline, great for hikes to Alpine lakes.

I have noticed a growing trend toward Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries for smaller applications. Full 12volt power in a one pound package. Would go great on a pontoon boat etc. $69 at Amazon or similar seller. Rowing is for the Winklevoss twins !!! Cheers, JP

The equivalency between Lithium and lead batteries is usually around 1 to 3 or sometimes 1 to 4 for poly type. So a 60 pound lead troll battery could be replaced by a 20 pound lithium. That's a great improvement, but the cost would be much more.
