I was thinking freeboard, but some CC's will have a deep draft as well. CC is a very large category, from shallow flats to offshore rigs.
I was just throwing my two cents out there. He is asking about a compromise boat, which is exactly what a fish and ski is. It obvious won't be great for tournament fishing, but this guy is upgrading from a 14' Jon boat. Either a CC or fish and ski will obviously be better than what he has for a family of 4!
Also, he still hasn't said what kind of fishing he's into. That plays in too. I wouldn't want cut bait and catfish all over the carpet of a fish and ski. I'd want a deck I could spray out.

There has to be a reason why there are so many 2-3 year old high dollar bass rigs for sale here at any given time and rarely any center consoles.

99% of fish n skis wish they'd chosen different. I sold them under caution and in spite of that they pulled the trigger. Then like clockwork they come back in a year trying to trade it in on a fishing boat that would actually get used.
If you really want a bass boat get a dual console and install snap on cushions on the front deck. Twice a year you can put them on. Rest of the time you aren't stomping them to death or snagging them with hooks. This is true with any deckboat that claims to be a fish and ski - biggest mistake I ever made was buying a hurricane for the family to ski out of and me to fish out of...would have been much better off buying a wake boat and selling it when I was done - they hold their value like you can not believe. Used older bass boats hold their value as well...I would have two boats in my opinion.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

Two boats is my long term dream, but finances don't support that now. My girls are young (3 under 4 years old). Fish and ski works well for now. When they are older, I'm assuming that a ski/wake boat is a must, if I'm lucky enough for them to want to come to the lake.
