They don't make a bobber big enough for some of the shad we us at times. A balloon is a good alternative. It takes a pretty big shad to sink one.

Dang you caught us! That was us! Connor caught a 17lb Striper on a down rod yesterday mid morning. All the balloon rods and free lines caught small throw backs. I'll post a pic later. I need to resize.

I have had three other big fish on this week in other places. One broke the line after a screeching long run, another found a tree after a screeching long run. Another was cut off by the trim tab when the customer did not stand up while fighting the fish. Its all good and was nice just to have them on.
