I know that I should have finished the cleaning myself but... We went on a catfishing trip and I came home and enlisted some help cleaning and putting away 7 cats. I did the filleting and it was the other parties responsibility to wash and put away for freezing. I communicated this to the other party but they were not listening and I didn't verify until the next day---long day and night---that I didn't do a 'final wash'. They admitted that they didn't know I hadn't done that and that they didn't wash because the fillets 'already looked clean'! So NOT SURE if after they are 'unfrozen' if they will be safe to eat. I hate to throw that effort and time away but don't want to get sick either. Need some professional help on this one!

Freezing them will kill most parasites if any are present (washing may not remove these anyway)..when you thaw the fish use soaking in cold water until defrosted...you can surely wash them after defrosting to remove any blood that was left (blood can give the fish a strong taste)...but the cooking (temp)should then destroy any bacteria or spores that maybe present..Freezing by itself does not "sterilize" the fish but it will stop any organisms from growing..the cooking will get the rest.So they are safe to eat but since they were not rinsed well they may have a strong fishy taste..Of course you should cook it as soon after defrosting as possible...do not store it in the frig (after defrosting) for use on another day...any frozen fish should be prepared shortly after defrosting.

They will be safe to eat. Whether they will be edible is a different story. I would be concerned that any blood, guts, slime left on them might impart a bad taste. If it were me I'd thaw them, wash them good and refreeze them.
Just my $.02

If you do want to defrost and wash and refreeze them ...defrost them in the refrigerator to make sure they do not get above about 40 degrees F...then refreeze them immediately...this would be perfectly safe but the quality of the filet after two freezings might not be that great...every time you freeze meat the freezing will rupture some of the cells in the meat...giving it sometimes a more mushy feel and texture...just so you know...and yes Toadthrower is a funny nick name...earned it fishing ...because I use to throw a Zoom Horny Toad a lot with much success I might add...earning the name from my fishing partner as a ToadThrower...
