Btw, went to grapevine lake where I've had a horrible time fishing from the shore. I would always lose my little jigs on the flooded limbs. I tried the rooster tail and swimmed it above the cover. On my second cast a little, little dink hit it. I barely even realized I had a fish on! Like I've got BLUEGILL bigger! Anyways caught two more, one the same size if not a little bigger and another that was actually maybe a pound or pound and a half. The rooster tail is now my go to lure for shallow water. I wouldn't have found these if I hadn't joined tff. Thanks for helping me get that extra fish! Sorry again for my immaturity. Have a good day!

What's the best rod and reel for rooster tails? And how do you fish it

They just about catch anything when fished properly under the right conditions. I have had a few surprises at the end of the line, such as a nasty bowfin when creek fishing. The hardest part of fishing them for me is getting the blade to spin after starting retrieve. I usually give it a yank once it is in the water before I start my retrieve. I prefer the smaller sized rooster tails (1/32 and 1/16) so 6lb test on a basic spinning reel and ~6ft rod is all you really need. If fishing 1/8 oz or greater then 8 lb test or above works best for me - might go with greater sized rod/reel outfit in this case. Fish it at various depths until you find what part of the water column they are biting at. Along the bank they are great worked parallel to the shore. Keep the blade spinning and your bound to catch something......

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

I had the pleasure of meeting him while doing some evening fishing, earlier in the year. Very good guy who doesn't mind giving you tips on how and where to fish the lake. I never really thought much of Bachman until he showed me the pics on his phone and I am 100% convinced now that there are some monsters in this place.

Rudy, I returned home after spending the past 7 months being a caregiver for a dear friend who went through a triple bypass, gallbladder surgery and several months of post surgical wound care supervision.

I have been catching up on reading the TFF forums. I cherish reading your post(s). Thank you for sharing your adventures and continued (fishing & catching) success to you.

Jeff
