Headed to amistad for first time Saturday and Sunday. Never been there so the number one question is where the fish at? Lol just kidding main thing for me is I really don't want to venture too far from a boat ramp. I don't want to get into any high wind situations but be able to fish productive areas. Thanks for all info

Hard to avoid the wind on the big pond, however you can put in at Box Caynon and fish all the cuts on the right up the river for 3 or 4 miles and be in pretty go shape! All on the right going up is US water. Safe and can be productive. Not much but hope it helps.

I like the area around box also. Plenty of water to fish there. If you get a real big wind, you can always put in at rough canyon and fish that creek.

I fished from Blackbrush last weekend 3/4 of the way up the devils river to Rough canyon in a 13 foot boat with a 5hp motor in 15mph winds. Don't be to afraid of the wind, but at the same time don't be stupid, there are protected pockets all along the lake.

Most of our fish came out of 6-15 feet of water. Caught em on topwater when the wing was low and primarily texas rigs when the wind was blowing. Lots of little fish but I did catch one between 6 and 7. Have fun, it's an awesome lake

I was there last weekend as well and I would recommend fishing the mouths of coves from blackbrush to the 90 bridge. Also fished box canton and did pretty well, caught more near blackbrush. Hint- top water popper early!!!
