Ok it seems like on every fishing show the person catching a small (1 to 2 pound) bass says "oh, another male". Are all female bass born 3lbs plus? or am I missing something obvious?

Fair point. I think during the spawn if it has a belly I'd assume it was female regardless of it's weight. Any other time of the year I wouldn't call a small bass a male.

Yea it's just guys assuming. It's very hard to identify male and female bass without an obvious belly full of eggs.

I was told that males have a pointy lower jaw compared to females. I don't know how much I believe it, but it kind of seems that way.

But it's the opposite of that in New Mexico and Colorado.

Assuming the lake is full of other racist bass, that fish must go into another cove or creek to take a dump until they change the laws. In the meantime, all transgender bass will cry and moan until all conventional bass accommodate them rolleyes.

You may have a misconception if I understand your question correctly -
Are all female bass born 3lbs plus? or am I missing something obvious? [/quote]

Obvious answer - All bass male and female are born as fry.

Determine the sex of larger bass (13 to 15 inches or longer) by examining the area around their urogenital opening. This is the opening on the rear underside of the fish. Females will have a circular scaleless area around their urogenital opening, while males' scaleless area will be more oblong.
Found this on the internet,..so it has to be true.. fish
