Cedar elm is heavy as heck. None of em float with enough concrete strapped to em.

If cut green, they're full of sap and will sink easily. But they will all float just under the surface when green. You need added weight to keep it in place.

Ya, we got it out. Almost died, but we got it out. I still have 5 or 6 cinder blocks left. I need to put some boo out now! It's a lot easier!

"Nah, it will be easy and should only take a few minutes." "Holy carp, this is a real -----!!! We should have brought a few more blocks." Next day - "Damn I'm sore from yesterday!!!" " Have you seen my knife, pliers or motivation to do that ever again?" "Next time we are doing boo because it is soooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhh easier!!!!! "BTW - where the he-- did that big --- scratch come from on my boat?" Yeah, been there, done that!!!!! Just last night saw a big oak that needs to hit the water. It will be easy and should only take a few minutes.

If you are looking for someone to do some field testing of your handy work ......... send gps coordinates and I'll be glad to provide timely, through, accurate reports. Oh yes, complete with pictures! My hats off to you guys that work this hard for the "thump"!

Elm is a very dense wood and does sink. It will also burn a chainsaw blade up if you're not careful. One other thing it's good for is smoking. I know that sounds funny but a friend turned me onto it and it gives a nice light smoke flavor and keeps the temp low so you can smoke for a long time at low temps. It doesn't work well below 50 degrees if by itself but above that you can keep the temps right around 200-250 without having to pay much attention to it.
I'm on other forums that deal with the old turbo powered Buicks.;)
