When cleaned correctly, they are good table fare, but compared to crappie, no way.

Sandbass are great. I cut the blood line out so all that is left is pure white meat. I batter mine in uncle bucks spicey seasoning from the Bass Pro Shop and deep fry them.

I filleted a full limit of white bass and carefully cut out all of the red meat. I gave all of them to a friend who helps me with bird hunting. Three days later, I overheard to his wife quietly tell a friend that they had been enjoying the best crappie they had ever had. I said to myself; who would ever give away crappie? Later I talked to my friend and he said that his wife was talking about the fish I had given them. At least some people think properly prepared white bass are as good as crappie. For me it is worth the effort to fillet off all the red meat.

IMO there is no comparison. Crappie all the way.

Right on!

Whites and Crappie do have a different texture and flavor, but are equally as good IMO. Sandies are way more fun to catch.
