I have a Tuffskins cover on mine and if you fish lakes like Roberts, you'll be glad you have one. Find a large cardboard box, spray paint it, you're welcome...

I see these alot lately and I really dont understand the need for these covers to begin with. It would seem they would hold heat while running.

I do understand keeping the cowling from sun exposure and fading, as well the occasional bait rap and maybe even noise insulation while running. I agree with protection while not in use too.
But, why pay all that money for a new shiny outboard then cover it up with a matte black cover? I suppose i am speaking of the ones you see on while the boat is in service.
Again I am just curious not passing judgement

I wax mine fairly often or as often as the boat gets waxed and it still looks new

Just to keep them looking good. My first two trips to Fork, with my new to me boat, scratched the cowling and decals. I think most people that have them, fish heavy timber lakes or have uncoordinated back seaters, hitting them with lures and weights. bolt

Just FYI, shade of a tree is not the same as not in the sun. The fading is from UV light. The tree doesn't filter that to the extent required to stop the fading.

. This. Don't use a trash bag. Condensation and moisture will collect inside the cowling and that won't be good for it. Buy a cheap motor cover online for $50. Replace every couple of years. Done.

Best thing is inside storage. Only place I would keep my boat now after doing it for 16+ years.

Not a joke! I was in between houses and was in a rent home who's garage my boat would not fit in. I put a cheap "non trailering" (tarp) cover to cover my motor cover and nice custom trailering cover. This was not about keeping it dry but protecting my expensive cover from several months in the sun.

Anything stored outside in the hot Texas sun will fade over time. I have been using TuffSkinz since 1999 and have been more than happy with them. They will fade also but have a two year warranty and if you keep them out of the hot sun when not in use the will last even longer. To the man who just purchased his in Feb. I would ask them for a replacement.

I'd like to know too.

That Texas sun has been fading me for the last 35 years.

Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,
And greedily devour the treacherous bait.
