We made the trip down to Lake Somerville last Thursday to fish a two day hybrid and white bass tournament. I’ve never fished that lake and didn’t really have high hopes for the quality of fishing with it being 7 feet high. Its just 11,000 acres but receives a healthy stocking of hybrids each year so we were excited to check things out. We spent Thursday afternoon cruising around trying to establish some kind of patterned and found good amounts of fish locked in on 16 to 18’ structure (secondary points). I was surprised by the quality of fish with our average white bass 14” and average hybrid 5 to 6 pounds. We enjoyed an incredible few days of fishing with a great group of guys. A lot of our numbers were caught on live bait, but our weighing hybrids and big whites were caught on Strike King 6XD’s and the big knife blade looking slabs from Moe’s. I’d highly recommend giving Somerville a shot if you’re close to that area.

Wham! One of the coolest feelings is finding new fish on new lakes. Makes me excited just talking bout it!

Great job Chris!

Nice haul, congrats!

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

Sweet graph shots! Only 11,000 acres to hide, that's not even fair

Yeah Martin it made for some easy pickin's. The top pic was hybrids and the bottom was whites.

If you ask most of the locals thats the story big D. Out of 17 teams on 5 weighed in a hybrid on the first day. Lots of trolling and guessing takes place on that lake, but I've got a feeling thats about to change. We landed at least 70 hybrids each day. The only thing that concerned me was the fact that we didn't catch a single undersized hybrid, even when we were catching white bass... Weird for this time of year

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to bleed them but they did it to mark the fish that had been weighed or caught that day. I cut them all the first day because we won and I and I didn't want to leave any room for accusations since it was a two day tournament. I cut most of them the second day because we came back in early to eat a burger and take a nap and didn't want any to disappear out of our cooler before the weigh in. bolt

Cut one gill and if in water they bleed out i do it at times makes cleaning a lot less messy and was curious if that a different way. Congrats on the win!
