Just bought a unit from a guy here on the TFF last month. Hooked it up to the boat and it worked in the driveway. Made it to the lake and NADA...so brought it home that evening a rewired it again thinking there might be a bad connection. Unit powered up next trip to the lake, but started having issues. Worked fine some of the time, but kept fading to black, fading to vertical lines, or powering off. Please advise on what could be the issue. I was thinking maybe the TM causing interference, but it worked ok at times with the TM going...

May be a battery issue. Low voltage will cause issues

Might be time to upgrade to something with DI/SI.

This one was an upgrade for me. Going to run new wires from battery to the front and hook it directly to the battery. As it is now, it is spliced into the harness up front where my older Lowrance was installed. I have been told that inteference can be caused by anything if not directly linked to the battery?

Having clean, tight electrical connections is more important than the power source. You are not going to get noise or voltage drop across a clean connection. I'm running two HB units and an I-Pilot trolling motor all off of the same battery bank and networked together and do not get interference.

I have a '97 Champion. Not sure how the previous owners spliced everything, but they have done a bunch of splicing with different things on it. Going to go directly to the source with straight wires and go from there if that doesn't do it.

New power wire directly to battery fixed it!
