Any opinions about a 2003 yamaha 225 vmax or a 2005 yamaha vmax? Are these good motors. I have no experience with a yamaha, lifelong mercury person. Looking at 2 skeeter boats that have these motors. Thanks

They're good motors. Top end won't be the same as your mercurys, but they'lll be strong. I would go with the hpdi though, I don't have much of any experience with the efi other than that a lot of people I know still run them with little to no issues. Good luck with your purchase!

V Max ox66 and the carb motors are pretty much bullet proof. I am not a fan of the HPDI and would not own one.

If it is a Ox66 or HDPI, I would recommend going completely through the fuel system as a precaution. Like any motor, they can pop. The good is that they run fine for a while if not properly maintained. If they are properly maintained, you'll probably get many hours out of either of them. I have a Ox66. Not knowing the maintenance history, I went completely through the fuel system including sending the injectors off for a clean and calibrate. That's when I learned 4 of my 6 injectors were running rich. While better than lean, the motor wasn't finely tuned. Once I finished everything, it ran a ton better. Mind you, it wasn't running badly when I got it, but I wanted the piece of mind that everything was right.
