New to Falcon Reservoir fishing. Would like to take out my 14 ft jon boat and 5 hp motor. Any tips on where to launch or where to fish would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

if it were me in a 14ft jon boat, I would put in at Tigre Island and fish the backs of the big and little Tigers.

also, contact James or Tommy at Falcon Lake Tackle. They'll point you in the right direction.

Thank you for the input. Where is Tiger Island? I've heard that name associated with gar and have also heard of little and big tigers.

I launched from the State Park this last time and I went towards the dam and fished to the left of it in some coves. I caught a long nose gar and a good sized blue cat but not the alligator gar I was after. smile

If anyone would like to send me google map pins to my cell phone I would most greatly appreciate it. I will do my part to balance the gar population so that other fish may thrive.

wait what?
you need to do some research on these fish their primary food source is roughfish. your using the oldest and most ignorant argument that bowfisherman use all the time. no true sportsman believes they "need to" or have a right to manage top level native predators.
if the presence of alligator gar somehow would eliminate all the gamefish species why in the world has it not happened in the 100,000,000 years alligator gar have been on the planet?

Remember the limit on Falcon is 5 not 1. Good luck.

The man didn't day anything about bowfishing. By the sound of it the man wants some fish to eat which there is nothing wrong with especially in lake falcon since the state felt it reasonable to increase the limit. While I promote catch and release I don't have anything against someone eating an alligator gar, it still helps with the negative image they have with so many people. Nothing wrong with keeping a few smaller ones for the table.

My apologies, Mr. Sharkbait. I'm well aware of the exception limit for alligator gar at Falcon. From some of the feed back I have received I was under the impression that people who fish that area don't welcome alligator gar in that water system. I didn't mean to offend anyone and if I did that was not my intention. I was just eager to put the information and feedback that I received from members to good use. I really enjoy catching alligator gar and have been skunked way more times than I have caught them and I always go back for more regardless of the. The way people feel about bass fishing is how I feel about catching gar. It's just my preference when it comes to fishhing. I'd just like to find where I'd have a better chance at catching them due to the fact that I live a few hours away. Maybe what I said came off the wrong way and I could have expressed my gratitude towards those who responded in a better and more understanding way. Once again, I apologize if I offended you or anyone by my post. Didn't mean to start off on the wrong foot here or with any of the members including you, sir. If there's something I can do to make what I said right please let me know. Thanks.
