I practice, mostly so I can pitch accurately with my left hand. (Right handed) Practice is necessary imo to be consistently good and to maximize your chances of getting bit on every cast.

I taught myself how to pitch standing on a picnic table pitching to 5-gallon buckets, then coffee cans, then coke cans.
Haven't done it in several years though.

I do. There's always room for improvement. If I think I've mastered a target, I'll make a smaller one, and back up even farther from it. Or, I'll practice left handed pitching, or backhanded casting. Always something that you can improve upon.

I have been using these two techniques more and more lately with spinning tackle. With one, I leave out enough line to grab the terminal tackle then sort of underhand flip my rod. Heck, I discovered that I can actually manage very accurate casts out to around 100 feet. To 60 feet or so, my accuracy is superb. It certainly seems to manage the wind a bit better if that is an issue; too, it often allows the lure/bait to hit the water with a softer splash.

Some of the guys I have seen working shorter can put it out there with hardly a ruffle of the water.

Absolutely.

You won't practice pitching in the back yard until you get spanked badly by someone who can. As someone said.... a flower pot works great.

We are building a pool so I can practice skipping..... The wife thinks it's to swim in. hammer
