1st time on the lake in a boat and not from shore, I know there was a pretty big tourney going on. but quick question, what topwater is the popular choice? I threw a spook and a frog most of the morning with no luck.

Those are good choices. A yellow magic works. Might have more top water luck starting in May.

I haven't found a topwater bit on Roberts yet this year. Those are good choices plus buzzbait or popper. It should turn on any time now. I think the rain/water fluctuations has impacted it.

watermelon/red ribbit frog is working just under the surface creating a little wake. throw it through the submerged willows

Swim jig bigger fish, shaky head lots more but smaller fish. Top water is not working consistently yet.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

I killed em with a ricco and bps walking shad. The zara puppy did good, too. But as it was pointed out, the bigger fish aren't hitting these yet...at east, not where I was fishing. I caught at least 40 plus Friday through today, and only 3 were keepers.

Sand Bass and short fish are hitting YM right now which IMO is the best top water on RR. In another month when the water gets closer to 80 deg and over you will be able to catch bigger fish on them. In certain areas early and late they will work until it gets cold again next fall. My $.02
