Whats the timeline for the spawn look like in DFW? I know they chase shad and baitfish shallow and on rip rap prespawn, but what areas and times do we look for through out the process (pre, mid, post)?
Thanks
Eric

It usually starts the first week of May and ends in June. As long as the shad are up shallow spawning the catfish will be there too. They're probably on rocks chasing shad pre spawn now

I know nothing about catfish spawning, just observing how many large catfish are present 1.5 miles up a small creek. and yes they are following the shad up rocks along the banks. (it's like Mckinneycrappiecatcher was right behind me watching)

It is starting at tawakoni
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

On the Elm Fork, when the water levels are fishable(very flooded right now), it starts in May, and may last to first of june. The area i fish, i can tell when spawn is starting, a long ribbon of shad along the rocks in the water, and the fish are caught 10-30 ft from the bank. Tight lined chicken liver works, along with the native threadfin shad. I drove by my spot couple of days ago and the spot where i usually set up is under about 8 ft of water.
