Ok, so I got totally bored sitting around the house today. Went and checked one set of my cows...they were knee deep in grass and seemed concerned that I might want to pen them and take them away from the grass bonanza, so they drifted off to less dangerous surroundings.

Figuring I would see the same thing at the other pastures, I decided to check out the lake level at Aquilla. When I dropped off the hill at Hillsboro, I notices the feeder creeks were high and rolling; lots of water going into the lake. Next stop 1534 bridge (area closed). Then on to Old School Boatramp, The water was writhin three feet of the top of the boat ramp and the courtesy dock was locked in high position and most of the concrete walkway leading to the dock was underwater. There were couple of boats out and a few bank fishermen drifted through, no luck at all. One of the bank fishermen swore the lake was still rising...No doubt in my mind on that, I just drove by the creeks...So I dabbled about, checking some of the flooded timber...Nothing shallow (within reach). One boat pulled in and had a couple crappie in the boat he caught while trolling for sand bass.

Drove around to Dairy Hill. Half a dozen boats out on the water. Couple of folks drifted in to bank fish and I dabbled for a few minutes (just to check, you never know.). Nothing. One boat came in, NADA. Started toward the dam to see how much water was being released...got rerouted by Sandra...Fresh Crappie in the fridge and she was getting hungry.

Verdict...Lake is High...I recognized a couple of the vehicles at the boat ramps as local catfishermen...cats must be biting.

Send me a PM next time and I might save you a trip. I live here. wink Less than 1 mile from the old burger shack location. You should've seen hackberry creek yesterday. If we get more tomorrow things won't get better. frown

I sure will Charlie...I was just trying to get outside...Put me in a house and I am like a caged cougar, always pacing and growling...at least that is what Sandra says...

I was thinking about going to the old iron bridge, but I figured it was closed...after I hit the bottoms...so I didn't go.

2415 S has a water crossing that's Aquilla creek. It had an iron bridge going across it and is now concrete.

We went last night, and did good. We caught about 30 or so keepers. Not fantastic, but good. Caught several really good size ones.

We caught them all in about 8' of water on the north side of Snake Island. From 2 hours before dark to 1:00am with a light in the water. On minnows. If anybody was wondering. Bite was real delicate.
