Watched the selects episode today and holy cats Ohio fishing sucks! I haven't seen one group of the anglers catch squat. You'd think they could find a lake with some good ones to have a good showing for the state.

Having lived and fished tournaments in OH for most of my life I agree that it may be the toughest state for bass fishing, except for Lake Erie. I have fished Mosquito (one of this seasons lakes) and it is one of the better lakes in OH. I was anxious to see if the pros found a few of the proven honey holes but they did not.

OH DNR does not stock black bass and there are no big reservoirs in the state so yea, not too exciting to watch.

yeah, Ohio inland lakes do suck ! I grew up there I know...the state does not stock bass period, only walleye, saugeye and musky...a little over three decades ago there was some dudes down on the Ohio River that got tired of the ODNR's lies and bullcarp about not stocking bass so they raised a bunch of money and bought a whole mess of 12" largemouths ( the min length on the river ) from a fish farm and cut one of their bottom fins so they were easily recognizable and released them all over in one of the pools on the Ohio - and what do ya know, those fish made up a majority of the fished weighed in that year proving that stocking would benefit the river but the state won't hear it...shame too, the river is a cool place to fish...what MLF should have had them fish is Lake Erie - that is the gem of Ohio !...Largemouth fishing in the harbors is Awesome and Smallmouth fishing in the lake is fun'nominal ! Presque Isle and Sandusky Bay/Bass Islands areas would have been the place, but then MLF would have had to raise the winning weight because an angler could get on a spot and blast it in 20 minutes...LOL

MLF has been to TX at least twice. Amidstad and Caddo. I don't remembered which others. Love the show but have not kept the recordings.

They are headquartered in Tulsa and you cannot be a boat official unless you live nearby, I tried. And the boat officials are required to use thier own vehicles to tow the competition boats to the lakes being fished.

Was this the episode where Ott Defoe won fishing all the way at the upstream end of the lake? I think the largest fish they caught was 2.2 pounds.

Anyway, MLF is by far my favorite format fishing show.

I know a lot of you guys like the show. I am not trying to tell you that you shouldn't because I have enjoyed it up to about now.

This point system that we are now hearing about is damn near comical with regards to the Select guys qualifying for the Cup tournaments (or whatever it is called). Correct me if I am wrong but did someone forget to tell us how or what criteria the Cup or Select anglers were chosen? How was Zack Birge just chosen to fish the Selects over Scott Martin, Andy Morgan, Randall Tharp or Justin Lucas? How in the bleep did Jason Quinn, Bryon Velvick or Kurt Dove even get in? Maybe there is some criteria that will explain it all eventually but right now it looks like the "secret handshake" or the perceived personality/brand is the ticket.

The post tournament round "press conferences" available online are really special.

For me, MLF is a WWE type of show/company. Granted I have watched the show for the last 18 months because of a high interest in pro bass fishing but the interest is fading.

Although the rules are easy to understand, I don't understand the format at all, like the difference between Cup and Select, or the play-off system, but you don't have to understand all that to enjoy the show.

I'm glad to hear that someone else is getting tired of seeing small fish being caught. I slept thru most of today's show. It "WAS" the best bass fishing show there was, but the lack of action is taking it's toll on the viewer's. Commercial's sure have taken over more time too. Hate to see it go downhill so quickly !

I still enjoy it either way. I learn more from watching these pros have to put together a game plan on a tough fishery that they have never seen, than them just whacking big fish. I enjoy the slug fests as much as anyone, but I also like to see them them struggle, and see the ones who emerge and how they did it.

Still an awesome show.

My philosophy, you don't learn much on days when you kill 'em, near as much as the days when you struggle, but finally figure something out.

HERE IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH MLF EVENTS. THE SUMMIT SELECT AND THE SUMMIT CUP.
Just to make sure everything is clear, the MLF Select events are qualifying events, where 6 anglers qualifying from each Select event into their corresponding MLF Cup event (six from the Summit Select into the Summit Cup, and six from the Challenge Select into the Challenge Cup). Each Select event has six days of competition.
The 24 Select anglers are divided into four groups of six, one group competing per day for the first four days of the competition. The top angler from each of these first four days automatically qualifies into the corresponding Cup event.
The next three places from each day will get a second chance to qualify by competing in one of two survival rounds, the bottom two places from each day are nocked out. The top angler from each of the two survival rounds will also qualify into the corresponding Cup event.
This results in six MLF Select Anglers qualifying into the corresponding Cup event. There is no "championship" round or "champion" in the MLF Select Events. The MLF Select Anglers are fighting and scratching to qualify into an MLF Cup event, to compete agains the 24 MLF Cup anglers.

Got this, but I think the question is who/what/how decided the 24 MLF Cup anglers? Do they ever have to re-qualify etc. ?
