Hey guys just wanted some advice. I have a on board battery charger. I dont keep it plugged in all the time also my boat stays in the garage out of the weather. Just a small 16ft bass tracker. I went to plug it in the other day and i got a red light saying check connection. They all seem good. Hasnt been plugged in a very long time. Im no mechanic just dumbfounded as to what this could. Ive heard this forum is amazing and has lots of great people here. Any help would be greatly appreciated

May not be the charger.....check batteries for low charge, if its too low your charger may not kick in on a dead battery. Also check for either a dead cell.

What Fitter said. I think the low limit is 7 volts but I had the same issue and you can use jumper cables from a charged battery to the dead battery to trick the charger to start then should work.

I replied in detail on this double-posted thread in another TFF sub-forum. Jason may not be understand he wastes multiple people's time in doing so; therefore, double-posting is frowned upon.

As for jumping a battery with another using jumper cables: Yes, you can do that, but there are risks. If the non-charging battery has a significant internal short because it has failed catastrophically, you may wish you didn't put jumper cables on it. A battery can blow up due to something like this.

The much safer thing to try (pointed in my post on the other thread) is to charge the problem battery with a manual charger for a while. If that doesn't get the voltage up so that the onboard charger can charge it, then that battery should probably be replaced (or at least tested).
