My brother used to work for a Chevy dealer til a year or so ago. I could've had a 2015 crew cab 5.3L for $26k plus TT&L. I have no use for 4x4, but I think the cheapest I could've got a 4x4 was about $30k (one of the many reasons 4x4 doesn't make sense for most folks - it costs too much). From what I've seen, a comparable ED would be at least $10k more. At 15k miles a year, $2 per gallon gas, and 18mpg average, that's 6 years of gas for free by buying the cheaper truck.
Maybe I'm wrong about the OTD prices of ED. I'm only going off what I've heard online. I never priced one with a dealer or anything. Not trying to start an argument - just trying to explain the math of a $40k half ton to the guy. If you can buy them for that little you need to start flipping them, just buy a new one and sell it to CarMax. you would make a shart ton of money  On the other hand I tend to believe your FOS. Just go in at the end of September when they're trying to meet the quota for their fiscal year. I'm sorry if you don't believe me, but facts are facts. This was a base model LS. I have seen Tony Gutierrez run crew cab half tons for $28k on here, and that wasn't for chevy employees like my brother's deal was.

Here is a 2015 with 2k miles on it in Dallas. CarMax tries to make about $4k per car, which means they gave $23k-$24k for this one after you include any cleanup costs, detail fees, etc. No way to make money buying them at $26k plus TT&L. https://beta.carmax.com/cars/chevrolet/silverado-1500/2015/12924232

I ask what normal people are paying and you come back with well if you wait till the end of the month when they are trying to meat quota and the new model year is already out and your sister's cousin's best friend's brother-in-law (practically family) works at the dealer you can get it for...  If you shop around and compare apples to apples both in trims and time of year month and quotas the numbers aren't that far apart

The non-GM price was $28k. Still significantly cheaper than an eco diesel. The price differences are significant. You can't touch even a 2wd ED for under mid-$30s from what I've seen. No way it pays off at that price. Tony has some 4x4 half ton Silverado pickups for $34k in the OT. Loaded to the gills half ton for $40k. I don't think the ED prices are anywhere close to that.

All that being said, I wouldn't buy a new chevy anyway. It would probably be a toyota. 2nd choice would be a dodge. Buddies with newer chevy's have had nothing but problems. My 2004 5.3L is still ticking along without a hiccup. Had to put a new gas cap on it a few months ago, and had to clean the throttle body about 3 years ago, and had to replace a window motor about 4 years ago. Only repairs I've had in the 9 years of owning it.

I was a Ford guy through and through. Ford needs to figure out how to build a engine that doesn't tap and loose coil packs at 100000... Couldn't bring myself to buy a Chevy. I'll pass on Dodge. I have had 2 Tundras they are typical Toyota... no real problems the water pump is good for abut 80k miles. The 5.7 has plenty of power. Gas milage sucks! 17-18 unloaded, 12 pulling my ZX250 and 8 with a 28ft camper about 8500lb. If I was pulling my boat or camper long distance I would buy a F250 diesel. consider what the price of diesel did last time gas prices went up. Toyota reliability in my opinion is second to none.

Ok.....so. I'm taking a gamble. The rebates and incentives expired today. I am holding out till tomorrow. I found "the truck". SR5 TSS 4x4 with 5.7L. Would have been 37,000 today. Tomorrow, if it's less, it's gonna be mine. Then I have to take it to get it "matched" to my rig. Adding an ARE cap and some rod tubes. Since the bed is kinda short.
Can't wait. Rode in a friends 5.7 last night. Jeeeez that thing will get it! Almost like a muscle car truck. Haha. And so quiet compared to what I've been driving the last few years.
Oh! And I can now qualify for Toyota Bonus Bucks! Ha. If I can catch some fish.

Thanks guys!!! Here it is!!! changed my mind....haha. Went with the same truck with bigger rear doors and 4WD. Little more money, but I think it is worth the extra $3000. So....this 2016 SR5 TSS big four door with 4x4 and 5.7L motor cost me $6000 LESS than I paid for a new 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. This truck is soooo much nicer to drive. I haven't drug a boat behind it yet. I have to go get the correct drop hitch. With the jeep I needed a 6" drop. This one I need a 4". Maiden voyage with the boat will be Saturday for a little local tourney.
