Hey fellas I was wondering, when is the best time of year to go for flounder? Been watching some videos and it looks like a blast. I'm a bass and crappie guy so I don't know the first thing about salt water. Thanks

Best is Nov-Dec during their migration. But the limit is two per person during this time since they're so stacked up.

Like mentioned above Nov-Dec is when flounder are thick and almost too easy to catch. The thing is not only is 2 per person limit but it's also when it's the most crowded. Late Summer (Sept-Oct) is my personal fav time to go after them.

While the "Fall Run" is hard to beat, do not discount the "Spring Run" which is in full swing right now based on what I'm seeing.

So if I went say the first or second week in October would that be a good time for flounder and specs? I'll be fishing from the bank of I also have waders I could bring. Thanks for the replies

Yeah Oct is a great month, but the actual flounder run is often more dependent on the water temp (swings / drops) than the calendar.

All year long is great for flounder. A lot of people focus on the runs, but you can catch them all summer. They will stack up in the back bays and shallows. Find moving water close to grass or coming out of the marsh, they are there. Since they are ambush predators, they will lay in wait for something to float or swim by. Its a lot like Crappie fishing. Use a jig under a cork or free floating plastic bait. If they are slow, add a pinch of shrimp to the hook or spray on some scent.

Is there a map I can get somewhere that shows what the different areas are called? I read about places but I don't know where they are.

Hook-n-Line Maps. There are are couple for Galveston area, like east and then there is the west. You can find them on line or in a store like Academy or Gander Mountain that I know of. They are the wade and kayak maps.

Anytime I can get on the water is always the best time for me.

I kinda scanned through the post and didn't see any mention of it, but if you are going to start targeting flounder you have to know about GULP. While it is not my favorite bait, most will tell you it is hard to beat for flounder. The Chartreuse Swimming Mullet is one of the more popular ones in our area.
