Went to Lake Murvaul yesterday afternoon after work. Started fishing at 530 and finished around 8. Came home with 19 keepers (caught 25 or so overall). Lake had went up 3-4 feet in a matter of three days since I had been there last, due to all the localized storms we've experienced of late. I fished the pier at Decker/Hill Park. The water level was about four inches from walkway of pier. Ordinarily you're fishing in 10-12 ' of water right there, but today it was more like 15'. I ordinarily like to chunk my jig as far under the pier as I can to get bit, but all I could do today was fish the cracks, then reach under and try to lip them as I hooked them. Only lost 3 fish doing it this way, but they ALL would have been keepers. Always heard that fishing would be almost non-existent for three or four days following such a drastic increase of fresh water in a lake. These the fish on this day didn't receive that memo!! wink Biggest was just over 15' with two more over 13'. Over the past couple of weeks I've personally caught some of the biggest crappie of my life. Love this lake, and when the day finally comes when I get that Crestliner "Outlook", I'm really gonna do some damage on the crappie population. Until then - Lookin for a 3#er!! smile Gonna go tomorrow after work to see if I can cash in again. Oh by the way, Bobby Garland "Monkey Milk" did most of the damage yesterday.

Sounds like a good trip. Murvaul's got some big crappie not to mention the huge bass.

Almost tried Murvaul after work today but went to Tyler instead. Really didn't expect to do very well after the storm but man the fish were biting like crazy. I got there about 6:15pm and fished until 8pm, landed 20+ fish but only had 6 keepers. Fish were caught in 16-20 fow.

Thanks for the report 1Wildcat.

Only fished it once, but O WHAT A LAKE!
Huge crappie there!

I'm always in a good mood when I'm fishing.

Went back today. Lake was down about a foot or so from the previous trip. Not near the success. Fished the usual 2 hours with 16 fish caught and 10 keepers. All totin eggs with three "hogs" in the bunch!! Hooked four in the cracks, but unable to get'em out. They appeared to be keepers.

FYI - Keep in mind that they apparently have a Thursday night Bass Tournament on Murvaul. The past two Thursdays, beginning at 6:00 pm about 30 teams will be on the lake, or so has been the case the past two Thursdays that we've been out there.

I live in Henderson and it takes me about 30min to get to either Lake Tyler or Lake Murvual.

@1Wildcat: Thanks for the updated information on Murvual.

Went back this morning. Fished from about 730 to about 1030. Started shallow {4') and put 8 in the bucket in about 45 minutes. Stayed another 20 minutes or so until the bite quit, so headed deeper (12') and fished for another couple more hours and put 10 more on the stringer, so ended up with 18. Nothing to brag about size-wise, just nice overall fish. Lotta eggs still, so "it's" still on!! roflmao

Wife and I headed back to Decker/Hill Park and did the fishing pier again today after work. Fell into a school that were suspended 5' under the pier and caught 13 fish on successive casts. Fished from 530-730, ending up bringing home 20 to clean. No monsters, just solid 12' fish. Most still had eggs. Bobby Garland jigs, once again, did the trick. Gonna have to make a BPS or Academy run shortly, running out of some "hot" colors. May go again tomorrow after work if storms will allow. Tight-Lines y'all.

Definitely been hot for us, at least over the past couple of weeks or so. As it gets consistently warmer, though, they'll dispatch to cooler haunts in the deep. Thursday night just prior to the Thursday night horn to sound for the bass tournament to start, there was a boat with a team on board whom pull just off the pier about 50 yards or so and noticed my wife pulling up crappie on about 10 consecutive casts. One had his phone out videoing the event. If you're seeing this I sure would like to have a copy of it!!

Went again today after work. Fished from 5-7, with 10 keepers. I got one right at 15' and the little lady landed one just a tad over 13". All the other fish were solid 12' fish. Far from the 37 we got Saturday in about three hours, but the circumstances were a lot different also. Saturday was cloudy & cooler with a pretty good chop. Lake was up,(water was up to the bottom of the pier)!! fish consistently bit the entire time we were there. My biggest crappie to date I caught on this day. Measured 16' with a 15 and 1/4" girth. Any estimations on how much this fish could have weighed? Just my luck, the store was closed. Gonna have to invest in digital scale on of these days!!
