Looking at buying a used late 90's or early 2000 Skeeter. Was wondering what the difference was between the SX and ZX models.

The ZX is more of a tournament setup

SX is built with a plywood transom, Skeeter would void a warranty if it had a jack plate installed.

Late 90's into 2000's ZX are all composite look for the aluminum transom that the motor mounting plate (jack plate bolts to) it is easily visible.

On the SX the transom is structural foam (i could be wrong) which is why no jack plate is allowed on them. Skeeter discovered this when they went to all composite in mid late 90's. The fiberglass and gel was cracking by the extra leverege applied by jack plates and the foam was becoming water logged not good. No jack plate no problems with the SX.

My older ZX has a plywood transom I have had no problems with a jackplate on it.

Do not buy a SX in that year model range with a jackplate intalled, seen a few out there recently. Some useful info here http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...00#Post11511667

I've owned both and the ZX is a nicer rig with more bells and whistles...more expensive when new. Find a clean ZX and you'll be happy.

The zx is a better stronger built boat. The SX is the boat for an entry level guy that isnt quite sure whats up and doesnt want to spend as much. The ZX has overall better performance as it is allowed to have a jackplate on it. Like Pat said if you setup the SX to run and perform then it will void the warranty. Alot of times insurance follow right along with warranty guidelines. Its all about how much you want to spend and what all you want out of your boat.
