I was told to let them knock the sh*t out of it and keep reeling until I felt the fish. I did that. I only waited about 3 seconds. I'm new the fishing swimbaits.

Well, the important thing is that you got him to bite it and you landed him. Every day the bite is a little different but it looks like he wanted your bait. That is what they call, Choking It!
