Throwing this out there in case anyone is considering doing something similar.

I decided to make a rack to store our kayaks in the garage that would free up enough space to also get a car in the garage.

I used some scrap lumber I had laying around, plus a couple of PVC tubes that rods had shipped in. I did have to buy a little bit of 1x4 lumber, but you could substitute almost any type of lumber.

This is what I ended up with. It's sized to be wide enough to fit my wife's Tupelo underneath, and the right height to slide my Tripper 12 directly into the truck bed.

The Tripper 12 has two "channels" on the bottom of the hull, I attached a couple of old PVC rod shipping tubes at the right spacing to ride in these channels on the hull.

I used a 1 1/2 inch hole saw to drill holes in the PVC, then a smaller hole and lag bolts with washers to fasten them to the rack.

This is my wife's Tupelo 12.5 slid into the rack on the C-TUG cart.

The rack is 6 feet long, so the kayaks overhang both ends.

This is the Tripper 12 going from the pickup onto the rack, these should save me some back pain.

Tripper 12 sliding onto the PVC rails.

Here's a view from underneath.

And the rack with both kayaks loaded.

I think I found the perfect crate to use with my orange Jackson Kayak.

Nice! I built something similar for my garage and put casters on it to roll it to my truck. Been super nice to have for loading and unloading.

Perfect crate thumb

I can back the truck right up to it in the garage. I just built it out in the driveway and left it there for the pics, better light.

My wife is pretty happy to have a big chunk of the garage freed up, now she doesn't have to be so careful parking.
