Anybody run a trailer hook on their Chatter Bait. Had a nice fish bite off my Lake Fork Magic Shad boatside yesterday.

It happens but has been rare for me. Usually they inhale a Chatterbait. Because my hookup ratio is so high with them I would not want to increase the chances of getting snagged. These are fairly weedless lures but nothing like a spinnerbait. They have a tendency to grab wood as they tap a stump way more than any short strikes occurs.

If you are getting short struck on your chatterbait, vary your retrieve or slow it down just a bit. That should help. Usually fish inhale that bait.

I tried one fishing with just the skirt and no bait trailer. What I noticed is I wasn't getting bit as much without some kind of swimbait trailer on it. I would rather have more bites. Coach

I get hung up enough with one hook. I don't miss many fish, they usually hit it hard and I just set the hook hard like a jig bite. I've never had any short strikes that I can think of, and I throw a chatter bait all the time.

Agree with all the above. If they are hitting a chatterbait they usually inhale that thing for me, never needed a trailer hook. They either eat it or they don't for me.

I never use a trailer hook on them. I would try a different color chatterbait or change the blade color. I've been doing well using a black blade. One of my buddies uses a glass rod and he says it has helped his hookup ratio and he catches quite a few on them.

Never needed one that I can recall. I would stay hung up to much in the junk I pull it through.

Guys I do not think they are short striking. They are most likely grabbing it and spitting it before you can set the hook. I use chatterbaits around the green lights at night on Fork and have watched numerous fish come out of the darkness into the light and hammer the bait and spit it before I could set it on em. I have also watched them come flying in and then stop short and turn away. When they do this you can feel the bait move. I was having fish do this to me last week at fork in the back of a creek. I believe it may be males just guarding and moving the bait or hitting at it versus actually feeding therefore a stinger hook may help but the stuff I was throwing it in would have had me hung up 90 percent more than was already occurring.

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

3/8 oz Project Z Sexy Shad with silver blade. Skirt trimmed at bend in hook and 3.5" LFMS. Blue Bird Sky, water temp 58 air temp 70. Not bedded in Mo. yet, just starting to cruise. Using SB rod with X fast tip--maybe next week change up and use CBR. No grass, fishing lots of wood-thats why I'm using SB rod.

I don't do it often but it does do the trick if you are getting short strikes
