I met a few buddies at the beach this weekend. They left me on Saturday when the weather got bad. I got a few big runs and they either dropped the bait or broke my 100b test. Until I caught this one. She was only 5.5ft but she was fat and put up a good fight. Caught, tagged and released.

Great catch. What kind of bait and did you cast out or carry your bait out on a kayak? I usually use half a whiting and cast out and the largest Ive caught so far has been maybe 3 feet. I fished Quintana Saturday and the water got really rough really quick and I refuse to wade out past knee deep.

I know what you mean about getting out in the water when you KNOW what's out there swimming around. This shark was caught on a casted bait (a small fresh whiting head). The water was rough this weekend. I brought the kayak but I've had a few bad experiences recently and I can't swim so I decided to leave it in the trailer.

Good deal. Im slowly figuring out this surf fishing thing. Its been fun so far. I had no idea so many fish(especially sharks) were so close to shore.

Ok, we need to fix that. Is it a physical or mental thing?
If it's mental, I assure you, you CAN learn to swim. Just dont rotate your shoulders and keep your head down, except for a quick breath every now and then.

Nice fish ! thumb

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

That's a great catch for a casted bait!

You are a brave man if you can kayak the surf and cannot swim cheers I hope that you wear a PFD at least bolt

Haha. Brave or dumb. I do wear PFD and I can doggie paddle when really need to. Normally when I get dumped by big wave, I somehow manage to hold on to the kayak and I just kick my feet until I can reach the bottom
