A friend bought me some open pour swimbaits molds so I could start pouring him some baits. So far I am pouring 5" and 7". My fist time pouring plastics since I had only injected them prior to this. These are my attempts from the first day using remelted plastics until my plastisol arrives tomorrow. I took them to a local pool to check them out and when rigged weightless they do a great dying fish representation. I'll post some more pics when they cure and I add eyes.

Anybody have tips to prevent bubbles in plastisol? I get air bubbles when I initially heat the plastic. It is degassed, I am heating it slowly, and stirring it slowly, but still get bubbles. It is pretty difficult for me to get crystal clear plastic w/o bubbles before it starts to darken and burn. I have tried with and without heat stabilizer.

stirring with a metal straight edge helps.

I have tried both a flathead screw driver and a butter knife w/ the same results. My plastic bubbles up before I even stir it.

How do you use the left over plastics... always wanted to, but didn't know you could use old plastics.

I've never cared about bubbles, so I'm not much help.

I don't care about them for my baits, but I don't think many would like the foam on the top of the baits after they are poured. I have to use a reheated plastic for the top layer to prevent this.

Put it in a pyrex cup and microwave until it reaches about 330-350 degrees. Only takes about a minute for small amounts. 10 seconds too much will burn the plastic and darken the color though.
