Was looking at stocking history and ray Roberts only has history of channel cat stocking. How do blues and flat heads get in there ?

Lewisville has never been officially stocked with blues either. Must have been a good population of them in the river and creeks.

If you are fishing Ray Bob you need to be shallow right now. They are there on the flats early mornings.

I fished the south side of spring creek bridge off lone oak. Drifted back about 1 mile twice caught 12 blues biggest maybe 3lbs. In 4 hours. I don't have any sonar hooked up so really don't know the flats. Just got a small boat and learning lake fishing. I have a garmin 7 inch down and side scan to go on my skeeter when I get the bugs out of the motor.

My guess is they were already in the creeks when the lake was built. They could also be spread by birds.
Ever wonder how fish get into a newly built stock tank and you know for certain that nobody stocked it?
First the perch then the mudcats and then the ditch pickles and mosquito minnows.

Back in the 80's my buddy dug out a 1 acre tank on his farm and never stocked it. A year later it had minnows and little perch in it. Mother Nature at work I guess.

Birds and water run off. I have seen fish leave my tanks and go to the next one in 2" of flowing water across the pasture. I have one tank that is on one side of a hill, and there is no other tanks in its water shed. I cleaned it out and stocked it with coppernose and hybrid bluegill for bait and some minnows. So far, that is all that has been netted out of it in the last 3 years. There will be a day when something else shows up.

Blues, I assume were put in Lewisville and Ray Roberts by one or more Bucket Biologist? I don't think anyone knows for sure.

I'm not even sure how accurate those stocking reports are on the TPWD website. I suspect they don't tell all.

I'd always assumed that blue catfish were native to the Trinity river system before people started damming lakes up.

They were and also in Red River and all the creeks coming off them. I've seen old pics of big blues grabbled out of Denton Creek before GV was ever built. My grandpa caught lots of blues out of Red River back in the 1920's and 30's. A lot of time during the depression that was all they had to eat and living on the river north of Telephone helped a lot. The old timers called them hump backed or camel backed blues.

Ray Rob was created after Lewisville, so I doubt all the Blues in LV came from Ray Rob. smile like Tom said, nature has its way and some folks help along the way. Gators show up in strange areas as well.

Muzzlebrake, that is a good spot up on the Red, Above Telephone. I have spent many a day by Lake Fannin, and walked all the way back to the river on the TypeII land there.

As mentioned previously, blue cats are native to Texas. Any body of water associated with the natural rivers in Texas will have a blue cat population.

An old story I was told by grandpa. popcorn He told me when they were building the first dams on the Arkansas river that people came from all over to take fish home to eat and stock the lakes and ponds in Oklahoma / Texas.......now I cant prove that story its just an old one I've heard more than once....

If it ain't broke don't fix it...but go ahead and work on it anyway.....
