My brother's birthday is coming up and he wants to spend the weekend kayak fishing. The wives will be with us, so we want to keep it pretty easy.

Two thoughts.

1) Find a nice cabin with waterfront access that we can stay in so if my brother and I decide to go fishing without the wives we can do so easily.

2) Maybe a easy river float. Thinking of a riverfront property that we could drop in upstream and float down to camp.

Any suggestions on where to go? Preferably within about 4 hours of McKinney.

Thanks

I went to comment on your post in the BASS section, can't find it anymore.

Anyways. I was thinking of the same type deal, but maybe not the kayak part. What really interested me was Broken Bow. The Beavers Bend State park has a ton of cabins. Lots are on the river, and it looks gorgeous up there. I hear they have trout and walleye in addition to all the fish down here.

Anyways, this has been added to my to do list. If you go report back.

You can't beat the Guadalupe or Comal for what you are looking for. However it may be right outside of your driving range. Maybe farther north on the river may work better for you.

glad to help. I remember finding cabins on the river, but looking at those sites. I didn't see it right off the bat. But i know there are some.

My wife and I are going Friday as well. We are staying at Rivertop Resort. They have 2 cabins right on the river just south of the 70 bridge. They have a beautiful River deck above the river. They also have a small dock on the river. They have a couple of kayaks and a canoe for rent as well.

I would look at Beavers Bend if I were you. Great shaded campsites around the area along with I've always done extremely well fishing on the river usually catch 15 to 20 bass a float up to around 5 lbs and I've seen a few that probably went over 5 lbs swimming around. Even if you are just going for the purpose of kayaking and not fishing still a beautiful area to visit.

Really can't go wrong with any of the recommendations listed above. Beaver's Bend, Guadalupe or Comal!! Beaver's Bend would get the slight nudge from me as it has easier access, rentals are more reasonable and fishing is a bit better.
