Boys talked me into making a trip to the lake with the sole plan to catch some big gills to bring home. Everyone likes to eat blue gill,but who likes to clean them? Me Neither! Also my boys don't know how to eat whole fish so they have to be large enough to fillet. I set the min size to 7" but majority were mid 6's. The big thick ones were mid 8's. Good times until I had to clean the little boogers. Kept thinking to myself,a good fisherman doesn't have to clean bait fish. Hehe,Caught 50 or so good sized gills and kept 37 I believe. Maybe 12-15 bass undersized and aggressive. And a big sucker 7lb 10oz. Got 2 bags of fillets in freezer so next trip we can go back to CPR again. Only 3 still had eggs in them,all of them had little to nothing in bellies. All fish caught in back of coves in 15-20' and fishing toward structure in the shallower sides. Deep cork or bottom technics.

I caught this sucker on 6lb floro and light 5' spinning rod. Took about 10 try's to surface to net him.

CH it just don't get any better! Life time Memories and a super nice mess of fish! I need to put Medina Lake on the radar screen for sure.

Thanks guys,it was a good time. When you ask a kid how many fish they caught and all they can say is...Lots! You did good. Fish are very active at the lake,betting everywhere in south Tx also. Fun stuff,also got to play with my new humminbird 899. We had switch fire on and I told the boys I was marking a fish,(we watch wicked tuna and they always say"Marking") boys said how deep? I said 15',hunter said I'm not that deep,maybe 10',they both looked at the graph and then Hunter dropped a jig to about 15 and instantly hooked the biggest bass of the day. Still small but fun. That was pretty cool. Now if I could do the same with crappie on brush piles,I'd be happy. I did mark a brush pile in 35' that had what looked like crappie on it. I don't know anything much about Medina crappie fishing but seem deep for this time of year. Plan on learning more this year. Temp said 63 If I remember right in the main lake and 67 in coves but don't quote me on that.

Nicely done brother !! Man i miss fishing medina can't wait to head out there and get on some of those fat gills again like few months back . How deep were they ?

Thanks man,ah I was in 15' most of the day and pitching towards the trees. Guessing 6' on a dirt bottom is where we caught the most. The dirt wash bottoms in the coves is what we were focusing on. All coves had fish,coves with lay downs were better. Goodluck man

Thanks bud,we didn't fish this weekend. So the boys re strung a reel,and pretend fished in the water puddles of the driveway to see the jigs action. Was sure hoping for more water to go into Medina. Like the 12" in Houston. Oh well,friend in town of medina got 3" before bed last night. Pretty sure we'll get some in the lake out of this,but how much??? Water data shows no change so far
